Getting started with Tap to Pay on iPhone
What is Tap to Pay on iPhone?
With Tap to Pay on iPhone and the Helcim Point of Sale app, you can accept in-person contactless payments with only an iPhone — from physical debit and credit cards, to Apple Pay and other digital wallets — no extra readers or hardware needed. It’s easy, secure, and private.
Minimum requirements for use

- Download the Helcim Point of Sale app
- Requires app version 3.0 or later
Compatible iPhone
- iPhone XS or later running iOS 17.0 or later

How to enable
You will need to have administrator access to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone for your business. Once enabled, the setting will be applicable for all employees under your business account using an eligible iPhone
- Ensure your iPhone device is running on the latest and compatible iOS version. To check, go to Settings > General > Software Update
- Log in to your Helcim Point of Sale app then navigate to ≡ More along the bottom navigation bar
- Navigate to Settings > Merchant account settings > Tap to Pay on iPhone
- Select Enable Now
- Sign in with your preferred Apple ID
- Select Agree & Continue to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone
Once enabled, Tap to Pay on iPhone will be listed as one of your payment methods whenever you process a transaction via the Helcim Point of Sale App.
To disable Tap to Pay on iPhone, simply toggle the feature off under your Merchant account settings.
How to accept payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone
- Open the Helcim Point of Sale app on your iPhone.
- Enter a custom purchase amount or add an item to your cart.
- Tap Review to view your cart.
- Select Tap to Pay on iPhone and tap Charge. If no Helcim Card Reader is connected, Tap to Pay on iPhone will be the default payment method on eligible devices.
- Present your iPhone to the customer.
- Ask the customer to hold their card horizontally, or their device at the top of your iPhone over the contactless symbol.
- When you see the Transaction Successful checkmark, the payment is complete. You can opt to email customers a copy of their receipt.

Is Tap to Pay on iPhone on the Helcim Point of Sale app secure?
Tap to Pay on iPhone on the Helcim Point of Sale app uses built-in app features to secure your business and customer data. Card numbers are not stored on the device or Apple servers. Helcim also provides additional industry-standard security to keep your payments and your customer’s data safe.
Is there a transaction limit for Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Payments processed through Tap to Pay on iPhone have a transaction limit of $2499.99 for US merchants.
Can I use Tap to Pay on iPhone with an iPad?
Tap to Pay on iPhone is only available with iPhone.
Why is my customer’s card not being read by my iPhone?
Ensure that your customer has a payment card that is capable of making contactless payments. You can confirm whether the card is eligible for contactless payments by looking for the contactless symbol on the card.
If the payment card is contactless, ask your customer to hold their card horizontally over the contactless symbol on your iPhone for the most reliable experience.
What to do if a contactless payment card isn't being read?
If a contactless payment card isn't being read, ask the customer to hold it horizontally over the contactless symbol for a few seconds. If it still doesn't read, have them center the card chip over the notch on the device. If there's no feedback, the card's antenna might be damaged or incompatible with contactless payments.
What payment types can I accept with Tap to Pay on iPhone?
With Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can accept any form of contactless payment, including Apple Pay on iPhone and Apple Watch, other digital wallet and payment services, and contactless credit cards.
Can all my employees use Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Absolutely! Any of your employees with an eligible device can use Tap to Pay on iPhone. Just ensure their devices meet the requirements and their credentials are set up under your merchant account settings
How do I change the Apple ID associated with my business on Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Remove the existing Apple ID and accept the Tap to Pay on iPhone Terms and Conditions with your preferred Apple ID:
- Follow the link in your Tap to Pay on iPhone welcome email to sign in to Apple Business Register.
- Confirm your business information and locate your Merchant ID.
- Select "Remove" to unlink the current Apple ID.
- Open your payments app and accept the Terms and Conditions with your new Apple ID.
