    This article is a step by step guide for setting up your Helcim Smart Terminal. 

    The box contains:

    • Helcim Smart Terminal
    • Charging Cable (USB-C to USB-A)

    • Receipt paper rolls x2
    • QR Code- Scan for more information about your Smart Terminal. 



    Charging your Helcim Smart Terminal.

    1. We recommend that you unbox and set up your Helcim Smart Terminal at least 24 hours in advance. This will give you ample time to charge the terminal and install any necessary updates before you begin processing. 

    2. Charge the Helcim Smart Terminal using the USB-C cable for around 4 hours to reach full battery. It can last up to 8 hours with printer usage.

    Your Helcim Smart Terminal comes with 2 complementary rolls of paper. One is already installed. 


    To load receipt paper, pull open the paper roll holder. Do this using the 3 raised lines on both sides of the terminal, above the screen. Remove the empty roll and insert a new one. Make sure the thermal coated side is facing towards the terminal screen. 


    To print a test receipt, select a transaction from the transaction list. From the action menu (three dots in the top right) select 'print receipt'. When the printing receipts, make sure to rip them towards you/the front of the card reader.

    Press the power button on the left hand side of the Smart Terminal and select, 'Get Started'!

    Connecting to the Wi-Fi.

    When you turn on the Helcim Smart Terminal for the first time, you will be asked to set up your network. Select your preferred Wi-Fi network from the list and enter your network password and press 'Connect'.

    Time Zone Settings.

    You can set the time zone for the Helcim Smart Terminal by scrolling and selecting your preferred time zone for the device.

    The time zone selected is only for your Smart Terminal. It will not change the time zone of your Helcim Account. 


    Helcim App Updates.

    The Helcim Smart Terminal will search and install the latest Helcim app to ensure you get the smoothest experience. After the update, it will automatically reboot the device and you'll be able to log into your Helcim app.

    Logging into your Helcim Account for the first time.

    After your device has rebooted, a welcome page will appear. Here you can select 'Continue' to log in to your Helcim account or hit 'Settings' to access your device hardware settings.

    If this is your first time logging in to the Helcim Smart Terminal you will need your Helcim account email and password.

    For first time login to the Smart Terminal you will need your email and password. For faster log-in, you can set-up a PIN for your account. To set up a PIN login, follow these instructions found https://learn.helcim.com/v1/docs/changing-your-pin 


    If you have not yet signed up for a Helcim account, easily sign up at https://hub.helcim.com/signup/register/ on your laptop or any other mobile device. 

    Configuring your settings.

    To access the settings menu, select the 3 lines in the bottom right hand corner and select settings. From here, you can customize your Tips, Discounts, Receipts and Taxes. Click here to know more about your app settings.

    Device hardware settings.

    There are two ways to access your Smart Terminal’s device specific settings.


    When turning on or rebooting the device: On the welcome screen under  ‘Continue’ select ‘Settings’. The Hardware Settings will open.

    From within the settings menu of the Helcim App: Select the 3 lines in the bottom right corner. Select 'Settings' then choose 'Hardware Settings'

    Device Setting Options.

    These configurations are specific to your Smart Terminal and will not affect your Helcim app, other hardware or Helcim account.

    • Network- Change the Wi-Fi network your Smart Terminal is connected to
    • Device Info- View device information, companion app version and model number. You will also be able to re-install the Helcim App from here. Any custom settings you have in your Helcim app will not be affected by re-installing or updating the app.
    • Display- Adjust the screen brightness and configure Sleep mode.
    • Time Zone- Adjust your devices time zone 
    • Support- Displays the contact information for Helcim’s support team


    Troubleshooting your Smart Terminal.

    General troubleshooting.

    Before going through issue-specific troubleshooting, it’s best to ensure all the following steps are met:

    • Check if the Helcim Smart Terminal has enough battery life to proceed with transactions
    • Check if your device has the latest version of the Helcim app
    • Check if your device’s date and time are accurate
    • Ensure your Helcim account is active

    Wi-fi troubleshooting.

    • Toggle the device Wi-fi on and off to check connectivity
    • Restart your router and device and connect again
    • Check your current Wi-fi speed, if it’s weak you may have to switch to another network
    • Reboot the Helcim Smart Terminal

    Printer troubleshooting.

    • Ensure the printer latch is closed and loaded correctly with a thermal receipt paper
    • Check if your device has the latest version of the Helcim app
    • If it’s still not printing a receipt, reboot the Helcim Smart Terminal
